The National Office for Research Ethics Committees has published a new article highlighting the profiles of public and patient representatives on their Committees, including Mandy Daly who is an IPPOSI Patient Education Programme graduate and founder of the Irish Neonatal Health Alliance. Mandy is currently a public representative on the National Ethics Committee for Clinical Trials.
Ireland has established three NRECs in the areas of clinical trials and medical devices, and public and patient representatives sit on each Committee. This model is an important first step in ensuring that public and patient voices are considered during the process of reviewing research into new treatment options and medical innovations. The Committees also make the minutes of all of their meetings available online for anyone who is interested in knowing more about the work of the Committee members and the decisions they make.
