The Diabetes in General Practice College at University College Cork offered a number of different opportunities to public and/or patient involvement representatives. A patient organisation representative (from Diabetes Ireland) was invited to sit on the Cork Kerry Local Implementation Governance Group for Chronic Disease and Diabetes Subgroup during 2019 (five meetings). A patient organisation representative also sat on a working group established to support the implementation of the Slaintecare project which sought to pilot the Type 2 Diabetes Model of Integrated Care in two Community Healthcare Network sites in late 2020. Finally, patient representatives also volunteered to help train clinicians on how to do a foot examination for diabetes patients.
All the patient representatives were identified by the patient organisation. Representatives were provided with a description of the role and terms of reference.
