The Intellectual Disability Supplement to the Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (IDS-TILDA) invite two patient representatives to join its Steering Committee. The role of the patient representatives is to work with other members of the Steering Committee to ensure that the project remains true to the values of IDS-TILDA that people with an intellectual disability are involved in the research process. All members of the Steering Committee contributed to a report on ‘The Impact of COVID-19 on People Ageing with an Intellectual Disability in Ireland’which was formally launched by the Minister of State with responsibility for Disability, Minister Anne Rabbitte TD in December 2020. The work of the Steering Committee is ongoing. The work of the Steering Committee is further supported by a dedicated TILDA Public and Patient Involvement Working Group established in 2019 and comprising of nine public and/or patient representatives.
The patient representatives were selected from nominations provide by patient organiosations. The representatives were provided with a description of the role.
