The National Research Ethics Committees (NREC) for Clinical Trials of Investigational Medicinal Products (NREC-CT A & NREC-CT B) was established by the Office of National Research Ethics Committees (NREC) in 2021. The aim of NREC-CT A & B is to review ethics applications for clinical trial studies on medicines. The work of the Committee supports the implementation of the European Clinical Trial Regulation. The Committees met 13 times from May-December 2020.
The National Research Ethics Committees (NREC) for Clinical Trials of Investigational Medicinal Products (NREC-CT A & NREC-CT B) both comprise of 18 members, each including five public representatives of which one is a patient representative. Public and/or patient representatives were appointed by the Minister for Health following expressions of interest received from a public advertisement process. Representatives work to an agreed terms of reference which includes a description of their role.
